Chiral Actions and Einstein’s Vacuum Equations
نویسنده
چکیده
The Euler-Lagrange equations of recently introduced chiral action principles are discussed using Lie algebra-valued differential forms. Symmetries of the equations and the chiral description of Einstein’s vacuum equations are presented. A class of Lagrangians, which contains the chiral formulations, is exhibited. † Mathematics Department, King’s College London, Strand, London WC2R 2LS, UK 1

Lie Symmetries of Einstein’s Vacuum Equations in N Dimensions
We investigate Lie symmetries of Einstein’s vacuum equations in N dimensions, with a cosmological term. For this purpose, we first write down the second prolongation of the symmetry generating vector fields, and compute its action on Einstein’s equations. Instead of setting to zero the coefficients of all independent partial derivatives (which involves a very complicated substitution of Einstei...
متن کاملActions for Vacuum Einstein’s Equation with a Killing Symmetry
In a space-time M with a Killing vector field ξa which is either everywhere timelike or everywhere spacelike, the collection of all trajectories of ξa gives a 3-dimensional space S. Besides the symmetry-reduced action from that of Einstein-Hilbert, an alternative action of the fields on S is also proposed which gives the same fields equations as those reduced from the vacuum Einstein equation o...
متن کاملVacuum spacetimes with toroidal null infinities
It is shown that some known solutions of Einstein’s vacuum field equations admit null infinities such that the sections of the null hypersurface at infinity are toroidal. PACS numbers: 0420G, 0420H, 0430
متن کاملA variational principle for stationary, axisymmetric solutions of Einstein’s equations
Stationary, axisymmetric, vacuum, solutions of Einstein’s equations are obtained as critical points of the total mass among all axisymmetric and (t, φ) symmetric initial data with fixed angular momentum. In this variational principle, the mass is written as a positive definite integral over a spacelike hypersurface. It is also proved that if an absolute minimum exists then it is equal to the ab...
متن کاملA Newman-Penrose Calculator for Instanton Metrics
We present a Maple11+GRTensorII based symbolic calculator for instanton metrics using Newman-Penrose formalism. Gravitational instantons are exact solutions of Einstein’s vacuum field equations with Euclidean signature. The Newman-Penrose formalism, which supplies a toolbox for studying the exact solutions of Einstein’s field equations, was adopted to the instanton case and our code translates ...
